Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch, aren't you just a cute little town! Our beautiful Airbnb host Anneliese came and picked us up from the train station and took us to her house and made us feel very welcome. The Airbnb was definitely big enough for the three of us.

The view of the snow covered mountains from our room was spectacular. Dylan and I couldn't of been happier to see the first sign of snow as neither of us had seen snow before. We grabbed a couple of extra layers as the town was quite cold and we ventured out into the town.

Garmisch is a small town at the southern end of Germany and definitely wouldn't see too many locals. They had a small set up in the middle of the town to celebrate Christmas that included an ice skating rink for the children.

The next couple of days I put my camera away and we all went skiing. Dylan and I on our first day on the slopes had a lesson and we picked it up very easily which was great! By that afternoon we were going down the easy slope by ourselves and hardly falling over. It got surprisingly hot on top of the mountain when we were skiing, we definitely didn't think we would be taking off layers while in the snow.

As we are from the Gold Coast where kids learn to skate or surf from a young age, it was different and unusual to see toddlers and young kids flying past us on the slopes. We must have given the locals some amusement as they watched us fly down the easiest slope, arms flailing, feet pointing inwards trying to stop every couple of metres and squealing every time we thought we were going to fall over.

We really enjoyed our time in Garmisch and wish we could have spent a few more days there on the slopes.

Next stop, seeing my first castle! Keep your eye out for my next post featuring the beautiful Prague!
